The historic building of the Bezalel Architecture Department, located in the heart of Jerusalem, is an important pillar in the architectural and cultural memory of the city and of the Bezalel Institute in particular.

This building, which has served generations of students and lecturers, holds historical, artistic and symbolic values of great significance. However, in an era of accelerated changes in teaching practices, planning technologies and collaborative working methods, the need arises to rethink the nature of the building, its function and future.

The project seeks to examine how it is possible to bridge the desire to preserve the spirit of the place and architectural memory, the growing need for planning flexibility, adaptation to changing populations, and the development of open, collaborative and dynamic spaces. This thinking includes an examination of the structure of the spaces, the traffic system, connections with the urban space and the surrounding community, as well as a deep understanding of contemporary pedagogical requirements. In doing so, options for minimalist interventions versus deeper interventions are being examined, while balancing between preserving innovation.
